Default Which ohm subs and amp?

I'm about to get 2 10" JL Audio W3 subs for the Sierra. Gonna go in the typical ext cab under rear seat box. What ohm should i get? 2 ohm? 4 ohm? What amp to go with it? I know I want a kicker amp (kicker and JL make a great combo), and its gotta have the remote bass volume knob too. Have that with my kicker amp in the civic and i love it.

So basically I know nothing about ohm loads and how the F its all wired for certain ohms, so what should i get?

Thanks!

likely most cost efficient is two 4ohms wire in parallel and hook to a mono or bridged amp thats stable at 2ohms and call it a day.

others that are more in the stereo scene will chime in I am sure.

btw I pm'd you a week or two ago to contact a buddy of mine who has 2 cars he wants to talk to you about detailing.

shoot him a mail if your interested. if you didn't get it let me know and I will PM the info again.

What Heath said. I've always had success with a bridged fosgate amp and diamond audio subs..just my 0.02.

Yeah Heath, try sending it again.

Thanks. I think my old kicker amp from the camaro was for 2ohm, and u had two 2ohm subs on it wired like that, but it was constantly turning itself off.

2 2 ohms in parallel is 1ohm
so of course it shut itself down all the time
2 4's and you will be fine.

No, read my post on WCGMP. Your amp is produces the following:

# 150 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms
# 225 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms
# 450 watts RMS x 1 in bridged mono at 4 ohms

Getting 2 4 ohm speakers will not achieve the proper ohm load for your amp.
  • 2 4 ohm speakers wired in parallel will achieve a 2 ohm load.
  • 2 4 ohm speakers wired in series will achieve an 8 ohm load.

Neither setup works for your amp.

You need 2 2 ohm speakers and you have 2 ways of wiring.

225 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms (recommended setup)
  • Wire them like normal
  • 1 sub into the right +/-
  • 1 sub into the left +/-
  • Each sub gets 225w RMS @ 2 ohms

450 watts RMS x 1 in bridged mono at 4 ohms
  • Wire both 2 ohm subs in series to achieve a 4 ohm load
  • Connect to amp bridged mono
  • The + terminal from one channel and the - terminal from the other
  • Both subs share 450w RMS @ 4 ohms

well technically it would work fine but it's not optimal if his amp can do 1ohm.

guess I misunderstood as I thought he said he tried to use this amp at 1 ohm and it would shut down. must have been a different amp?

The amp he has is not 1 ohm stable.

Although you were correct in your first statement

But his amp is not rated at 2 ohm mono. It is 4 ohm mono. And the only way to achieve that is either getting 2 8 ohm subs wired in parallel or 2 2 ohm subs wired in series.

I don't really want to get into the pros/cons of wiring in parallel vs series, but the best option would be the simplest. 2 2 ohm speakers. Wired separately into each channel. With each sub receiving 225w of power.
